Ralph Hage is an artist and academic based in Beirut, Lebanon. He holds a Ph.D. in Semiology from the University of Quebec at Montréal (UQAM) and an M.A. in Art History from the University of Montreal. Hage's research investigates the intersection of art, history, and philosophy, with particular emphasis on questions of ecopoetics, identity, and violence. He is currently a Full Professor at the Lebanese University's Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture. His scholarly work has been published in journals such as Contagion, Art and Architecture, and Third Text. In addition to his academic pursuits, Hage maintains an active artistic practice, exhibiting his work internationally in Lebanon, Canada, the United States, and Portugal. His art has been featured in venues such as the Beit Beirut Museum and Institut Français, and is held in the permanent collection of the National Gallery of Canada. Hage's artistic practice explores the interconnectedness of all things, from the natural world to human consciousness. Through his work, he challenges anthropocentric worldviews that contribute to the current ecological crises. His ongoing project, "Ecogenesis, or Do We Create the World That Creates Us?", employs a digital book/map as a framework for exploring this interconnectedness. The physical prints exhibited offer viewers glimpses into this larger ecosystem of ideas, prompting them to question prevailing perspectives and cultivate a more holistic understanding of humanity's place in the world.
